Tasmanian Antarctic Gateway Strategy

The Tasmanian Antarctic Gateway Strategy (the Strategy) recognises the substantial economic, employment, social and research opportunities for Tasmania from the Antarctic and Southern Ocean sector.

The Tasmanian Government is committed to make the most of these opportunities for the benefit of the broader Tasmanian community by strengthening Tasmania’s position as an international Antarctic centre of excellence.

Antarctic Tasmania is responsible for implementing the Strategy and connecting key players within and external to the Antarctic and Southern Ocean sector.

The Strategy’s policies and initiatives are dedicated to supporting growth in Tasmania’s Antarctic sector and securing Tasmania’s position a world centre of Antarctic and Southern Ocean expertise.

The Strategy aims to:

• enhance Hobart’s standing as an international Antarctic and Southern Ocean science and research hub
• attract international Antarctic program visits to Tasmania
• attract additional Antarctic research investment and science collaboration to the state
• stimulate export and trade of Tasmanian polar, remote, and maritime products and services
• encourage and facilitate a collaborative approach to growing the sector
