Tasmanian Government acknowledges the 40 Year Anniversary of the AAD moving to Hobart

On 4 Oct 2021 the Tasmanian Minister for State Growth and Antarctic Tasmania hosted a reception at the Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery to acknowledge the 40th Anniversary of the move of the headquarters of the Australian Antarctic Division from Melbourne to Hobart.

Guests included staff of the Antarctic Division, key Antarctic and Southern Ocean research organisations, industry representatives and international stakeholders.

The historic context of Hobart as an international Antarctic gateway and hub of activity was skillfully elaborated by Sir Guy Green, former Governor of Tasmania and current Honorary Antarctic Ambassador of Tasmania. Other speeches were presented by the Minister, the AAD Director and two staff members of AAD. The evening also marked the 30th Anniversary of the signing of the Madrid Protocol for Environmental Protection of Antarctica, and a cake was cut in honour of both the anniversaries.
