Medical research and innovation

Royal Hobart Hospital’s PEGASUS is the medical research division of the Department of Diving, Hyperbaric & Aerospace Medicine at the Royal Hobart Hospital in Tasmania, Australia. The PEGASUS EnviroLab (the Physiology of Extreme Geographic, Aviation, Space & Under-Sea Environments Laboratory) is dedicated to furthering understanding of the human physiological response to extreme environments, and translating the lessons learned at the edge of the human survivability envelope to mainstream medical practice for the benefit of all Australians.

The Centre for Remote Antarctic and Maritime Medicine (CARMM) is an expert network in Antarctic, remote and maritime medicine. It is a consolidation of Australia’s only established network of Australian Antarctic medical and human biology, cold climate health expertise. It develops courses and provides postgraduate training across a range of remote medical services.
